About the Artist

Virginia Melanson is a portrait artist that works in many two dimensional mediums. Currently she is working on an extensive painting series, Artifice, which explores illusion and female objecthood within painting. She grew up in Batavia, IL and through out her life she studied art. She went to college at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA where she mastered painting and developed her own style. In Virginia's senior year she won the Kimmel Award for her three dimensional painting series, Artifice. She currently lives in Aurora, IL and works at her studio in the Mausoleum Gallery. She is continually producing work and is an active artist in the Chicago land area.
